Jan Sebon

Poet, musician, and media personality Jan Sebon founded the rasin (Haitian roots) band Kazak in 1985 and is the host of the long-running world music and poetry show “Mundo Vibe” on Miami’s WDNA. His 1997 poem “I Would Like To Know” was anthologized in Having a Wonderful Time (Simon and Schuster). Sebon has played classical guitar, djembe, and percussion since his childhood in Haiti. He has been featured as a soloist with Don Cherry, Nana Vasconselos, and the Urban Bush Women, and on Kafrik’s “Sou Do Ras La” and the Historical Museum of Southern Florida’s 1999 “Caribbean Percussion Traditions in Miami.” He teaches music at the Design and Architecture Senior High School in Miami, and regularly gives workshops on Haitian drumming, song, and storytelling in schools, libraries, fairs, festivals and community centers.
