Last night roughly a dozen young artists from Miami Bridge and Eckerd Youth Alternatives auditioned for 6 apprenticeships funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. They showed so much promise that Eckerd was able to provide an opportunity for an additional apprentice, bringing our total to 7:

Hakeem Hannam and McGregor Surmondre will apprentice on steel pan with Master percussionist Michael Kernahan

Cedrick Turin and Javis Johnson will apprentice in Afro-Haitian Drumming with Catelus “Ton Ton” Laguerre

Miguel Alvarenga, Arianté de la Cruz, and Davonte Ford will apprentice in Afro-Cuban Drumming with Arelan Torres
