Carnival Arts has been on pause during the pandemic, since no visitors are allowed at the Miami Bridge youth crisis shelter, and the youth we usually work with are staying safe on site.
But we are on the cusp of a historic election, so we had a short Carnival Arts revival to help produce the Miami Vote Float — a get-out-the-vote effort with a carnival twist.
Long-time Carnival Arts collaborator Damian Rojo joined director Celeste Landeros to lead a banner-making workshop in Homestead last Saturday. Five boys staying in Homestead painted banners that will hang from the doors of our “vote floats.” At Miami Bridge Central, the girls added glitter and jewels to make the banners stand out.
