Brian Wong Won is a visual artist known for his bright colors, expressionistic compressions of space, and distortions of architectural space. His subjects tend to be Trinidad carnival and the local vintage architecture. Born in Trinidad in 1970, he earned a BFA in Painting & Art History at Florida International University, writing a thesis on 18th Century Trinidadian carnival costumes. He currently lives in Miami, Florida, but returns to Port of Spain as head of his own Carnival J’Ouvert band MAS Jumbies, founded in 2007. He has had more than twenty solo shows starting in 1996 and his work can be found in the National Museum of Trinidad & Tobago and several corporate and private collections.
Brian lead the Trinidad workshops at the Miami Bridge Homestead campus in 2010 and at the 21st Century Steel Orchestra pan yard in 2011.
