Warrior Girls

On December 15, Carnival Arts choreographer Marisol Blanco led a group of eight Warrior Girls from the PACE Center for Girls, Miami in a dance inspired by the Afro-Cuban warrior, Oya. She controls the wind, wields a machete, and is respected by all.

Today we took a break from the Splash! theme to honor our ancestors and loved ones who have passed on. All of the artists wrote private letters to a loved one or an ancestor, then each made a calavera in their memory.
